While Virginia has made significant strides to confront human trafficking, it’s still a growing problem—so much so that Governor McDonnell hosted the first-ever state Human Trafficking Summit. What those in attendance learned is that while Virginia-especially Northern Virginia—is still one of the largest hubs for traffickers, law enforcement is quickly gaining ground.
In the wake of this week’s shooting at the Washington Navy Yard, some Virginia lawmakers are renewing their push for new gun control measures. While that effort is unlikely to go anywhere, there seems to be bipartisan agreement the Pentagon needs to review the access it grants contractors.
Thirty-two sets of families are still dealing with the losses they experienced six years ago due to the Virginia Tech shootings. And while they have tried to heal in their own ways, two still believe there's an injustice that must be righted. It's why they appeared at the Virginia Supreme Court, where they also heard state attorneys argue why a ruling holding Tech responsible for the massacre should be overturned.
