Cuccinelli vs. Southwest VA Landowners?

There’s a new controversy brewing - one that could mean trouble for Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli.  It involves a lawsuit on behalf of landowners in Southwestern Virginia.

They claim two energy companies failed to pay them royalties on methane gas wells.  One of those firms has given $100,000 to Cuccinelli’s campaign - and now a judge in the case says she’s shocked by e-mails from the attorney general’s office to those energy companies.   Sandy Hausman reports on the history of the case.

Even for residents of nearby Charlottesville, the Blue Ridge Swim Club may be a surprise – a one-of-a-kind place where cicadas, tree frogs and birds provide a natural soundtrack. 

At the end of an unpaved, single lane off Owensville Road in Ivy, you park in the grass and follow a winding path down a hill, through a forest of old growth trees to a fresh water pool the length of a football field.

Birds of Paradise

Birds of Paradise are an exotic family of feathered friends found only in Papua New Guinea, but this summer, some of them have landed in the trees on Charlottesville’s downtown mall.  

Male Birds of Paradise are perhaps the prettiest creatures of their kind – with crazy, colorful plumage, precision dance moves and a piercing song that appeals to the less colorful females.

Many Solutions to Ride Sharing

Americans waste an average of $818 a year sitting in traffic. A study from the Texas A&M Transportation Institute also says we’ll plan on an hour in rush-hour traffic for every 20-minutes of driving in normal traffic.

All that time adds up and that is the reason Virginia has almost 20 rideshare agencies. Jeremy Holmes is Program Director of Ride Solutions in Roanoke.
