Richmond Hosts Region's Largest Pride Fest

Virginia Pride

This Saturday more than 15,000 people from around central Virginia are expected to flock to Richmond for one of the state’s largest Gay Pride Festivals.

Saturday is the 3rd annual Pride Fest on Brown’s Island, Richmond’s premier outdoor festival location.

“We’ve reached the big leagues, and with that privilege comes great responsibility.”

James Milner is president of Virginia Pride, and he sees this festival as a chance to demonstrate that his home is a welcoming and inclusive place.

“The city and the region celebrates diversity and appreciate what each community has to offer to the quality of life in this area.”

The festival will have food trucks, vendors, and a special LGBT-friendly kids area.

“We have drag queens that are going to teach kids how to lip sync if they want to learn, we have big blow up balls that people can get in and roll around on the island.”

The event runs from noon to 8 on Saturday, and will include live music on two stages.

Mallory Noe-Payne is a Radio IQ reporter based in Richmond.
