Dave Brat Wins the 7th; Vows to Pursue Republican Policies

As expected, Republican Dave Brat – who stunned the pundits by unseating Eric Cantor in the GOP primary – was victorious in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District. It’s solidly Republican, and Brat won more than 60% of the vote.

Dave Brat took in more than a million dollars in campaign contribution, while his Democratic opponent raised less than half as much, and while the Republican candidate thanked his supporters, he praised God for his success.

In the tough times, and in this business the times do get really tough, God has been there for me when I went to him. I just want to give God the first fruits, and thank you very much.”

Brat vowed not to become a political insider but pledged to pursue policies outlined by Republican party leaders in Washington.

Like jump-starting the economy, securing the border of the United States of America, reducing the overwhelming tax burden on you and your families and your businesses, and I know you’ll like this one – replacing Obamacare with reforms that actually lower costs.”

During the campaign, he avoided the media and took the opportunity in his victory speech to attack reporters.

I hope going forward the media can be a partner in helping us to focus more on the critical issues and not on the sound bites. I think the people will be better served if we move forward in that fashion.”

Because the former Congressman, Eric Cantor, resigned before his term had expired, Brat will take office immediately.
