Corey Stewart to Challenge Tim Kaine in Next Year's U.S. Senate Race

Republican gubernatorial nominee Ed Gillespie fought off a nearly successful challenge in last month’s primary from Prince William County Board of Supervisor’s Chairman Corey Stewart. Today, Stewart announced what’s next.

During a press conference, Stewart described exactly what kind of campaign he would run in order to win Democrat Tim Kaine’s Senate seat next year:

“I am going to run the most vicious, ruthless campaign to dethrone Tim Kaine from the United States Senate. It’s time that Republicans take back that seat. It’s time that we have a United States Senator who is going to support the President – not try to obstruct his way.”

Stewart accused Kaine of a “blind hatred” towards President Trump and criticized him of focusing too much on the Russia investigation at the expense of the needs of Virginians.

Stewart, who was President Trump’s Virginia campaign chairman last year, is the first Republican to announce their bid for Senate in next year’s election.
