McDonnell Addresses Issues at NAACP Convention

Governor McDonnell acknowledges that one of his signature campaign proposals was not a total success, but he is touting the progress that’s been made in restoring the rights of non-violent felons. The Governor told the state NAACP at its convention that while both leading gubernatorial candidates have pledged to continue this effort, it's not enough-and now civic leaders must push lawmakers to amend the state Constitution.

"You've Been Trumped"

The company headed by Donald Trump is pressing ahead with plans for a golf course in Central Virginia, despite strong objections from environmentalists.  Next week, they hope to mobilize the public with a movie about the golf course trump built in Scotland.

Richard Finney made an award-winning documentary about Donald Trump’s decision to build a golf course on environmentally sensitive land in northern Scotland.

“Essentially it’s untouched coastal dunes land, and there’s very little of that left in Great Britain, so it  essentially was a kind of wilderness area.”

Dueling Gun Control Ads

A new round of attack ads are being lobbed in Virginia’s heated off year election.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is dropping more than one million dollars in support of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe. The first ad shows images of the Virginia Tech and Navy Yard shooters as the announcer lambasts the Republican candidate’s positions on guns.

The National Rifle Association is up with its own ad supporting Republican state Sen. Mark D. Obenshain in Virginia’s race for attorney general. It attacks Democratic state senator Mark R. Herring.

Virginia Western Community College Dedicates New Building

Virginia Western Community College celebrated the newest building on campus Wednesday, a center for students of science and health professions.

Governor Bob McDonnell joined Virginia Western President Robert Sandel, Virginia Tech President Charles Steger, University of Virginia President Teresa Sullivan and Glenn DuBois, chancellor of Virginia’s community college system, to dedicate Virginia Western’s Horace G. and Ann H. Fralin Center for Science and Health Professions.
