WVTF & RADIO IQ Friends Council
The mission and purpose of the WVTF/RADIO IQ Friends Council is to gain support for the radio station’s work and to help these public radio services remain a strong and valuable resource for our large community. Friends Council meetings are held a minimum of twice per calendar year with additional meetings held as needed. All meetings are open to the public for observation.
The Friends Council performs the following:
a. Reviews the programming goals established by the station.
b. Reviews the community service provided by the station.
c. Reviews the impact on the community of the significant policy decisions rendered by the station.
d. Assists with fund raising and helps the station remain financially strong.
e. Advises the governing board of WVTF/RADIO IQ whether the programming and other significant policies of the station are meeting the specialized educational and cultural needs of the communities served by the station. The Friends Council may make recommendations to the governing board to meet those specialized needs.
f. Does not make specific program decisions. However, input and ideas gathered at meetings are presented to the station’s program department management to help them assess how the radio station can best serve its constituent’s needs.
g. Offers various ideas and suggestions to help make the radio services stronger and more valuable to the community.
The Friends Council is one of many vehicles that provide community input to station management. WVTF and RADIO IQ are continually in touch with listeners and the community at large, and the Friends Council is an additional and important resource for remaining connected to our citizenry.
