UVA Hoping for a World Series Win and a Place in the History Books

It will be a winner-take-all at the College World Series tonight in Omaha. 

The Virginia Cavaliers forced the deciding game last night with a 7-2 victory over Vanderbilt.  Tonight’s game starts at 8 PM and will be shown on ESPN. A Virginia victory tonight would be historic for the university and the Atlantic Coast Conference.  

An ACC team hasn’t won the College World Series since 1955.  North Carolina in 2007 was the last ACC team to reach the best-of-3 championship series.

UVA Fans Are No Strangers to Omaha

The University of Virginia baseball team has its back against the wall at the College World Series in Omaha. Vanderbilt took Game One in the best-of-3 championship series, 9-8. UVA’s trips to Omaha are drawing repeat visitors with hopes of seeing the Cavaliers go all the way...  

It isn’t just for baseball.  Don Luttrell and his wife, Linda, from Zion Crossroads followed the men’s basketball team to Omaha two years ago.

"Room of Errors" Saves Lives

Modern medicine can be complicated - relying on high-tech procedures and multiple medications, so it’s no surprise that medical mistakes occur.  One study estimates they lead to 400,000 preventable deaths a year and ten times as many serious injuries.  To attack that problem, the University of Virginia Medical Center has launched a pilot program called “The Room of Errors.”

Dual Enrollment Benefits

Virginia's junior U.S. Senator is backing a federal dual-enrollment bill that would enable more students to attend high school while earning college credits.

Senator Tim Kaine says his family saved money through a dual enrollment program—and similar initiatives nationally could help put more students through college.

Kaine is co-sponsoring the “Supporting College Access and Success through Dual Enrollment Act” because it allows a student to shave off a year or more of college tuition and dorm costs.
