Bill Bolling: A Look Back at His Eight-Year Career

He served as Virginia's Lieutenant Governor for eight years and as a state lawmaker for even longer—and now Bill Bolling is saying goodbye to public office.  In Part 1 of our retrospective series on the statewide officeholders, Bolling discusses his preparation for life in the private sector and the legacy he leaves behind. 

Bolling says he wanted to be Governor but does not regret his decision to NOT challenge Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli for the GOP nomination. He WILL, however, miss the people, service, and working at the State Capitol.

Governor-Elect Continues to Build His Administration

Governor-Elect Terry McAuliffe is re-appointing a third cabinet secretary who served under Governor McDonnell.  McAuliffe acknowledged the contribution that Todd Haymore has made to Virginia's largest industry and asked him to stay on as Secretary of Agriculture. In addition, environmental groups are applauding his decision to name former Hampton Mayor Molly Ward as Secretary of Natural Resources.

Governor McDonnell Could Face Criminal Charges

It looks as though Virginia’s outgoing Governor may face criminal charges soon after leaving office next month. 

According to the Washington Post, a federal prosecutor’s plan to ask for an indictment against

Governor Bob McDonnell and his wife, Maureen, has been delayed until the first of the year. The request is in connection with the Star Scientific and Jonnie Williams scandal, also known as “giftgate”.

Mark Herring is Virginia's Next Attorney General

The election and recount behind him, Attorney General-elect Mark Herring is for the first time officially able to set the stage for how he will run that office.  During a media briefing late Wednesday, Herring thanked Senator Mark Obenshain for his gracious concession, discussed how he plans to work with Obenshain and other lawmakers, and gave reassurances that he will keep his campaign promises.
