Virginia Senator Mark Warner marked the anniversary of the Virginia Tech tragedy with a speech on the senate floor.

He said the gun control legislation debated in the Senate includes his proposal to set up a National Campus Safety Center—to make colleges and university campuses safer nationwide.

Warner says the Center would provide colleges, universities and non-profit organizations with one-stop resources for research, grants and planning and training initiatives.

A remembrance ceremony on the grounds of Capitol Square  marked the 6th anniversary of the Virginia Tech shootings.

The debate over gun control, school safety, and overall quality of life in the shadow of violence has waned somewhat, but when another violent incident occurs on the world stage, the question that will re-emerge is: "What are we going to do?"

So to help prevent another Virginia Tech or Newtown massacre, the Governor's Task Force on School and Campus Security is again tackling the related challenges.  The Mental Health Working Group is slowly rolling out ideas that the members believe will address some overlooked issues.
