Liberty University Student Shot and Killed


A Liberty University freshman is dead after an apparent altercation with a university Emergency Services Officer yesterday in Lynchburg.

According to university officials, 19-year-old Josh Hathaway, of Lubbock, Texas died from a gunshot wound, after attacking  a university security officer yesterday morning at an off-campus, female-only residential hall.

Senator's Son: A Lack of Adequate Mental Health Services?


State Senator Creigh Deeds is recovering after being stabbed at his Bath County home yesterday, evidently by his 24-year-old son.  The attack and subsequent apparent suicide by Gus Deeds have raised new concerns about whether Virginia provides adequate mental health services.  We have more on Gus Deeds’ case and what experts hope will happen next.

Gus Deeds had been assessed by mental health professionals who hoped to hospitalize him, but no psychiatric beds could be found in all of Western Virginia, so he was sent home.

Hospital Lists Senator's Condition as "Good"


State Senator Creigh Deeds continues to recover from stab wounds he suffered yesterday at his home in Bath County.  Police believe his 24-year-old son attacked the senator before taking his own life. 

The emergency call came just after 7 a.m.  Corinne Geller, who speaks for the Virginia State Police, said there was an attack at Deeds home in rural Millboro.

Senator Deeds and his son had an altercation at the Deeds residence.  Deeds was stabbed multiple times about the head and upper torso.

Senator Creigh Deeds: Authorities Consider Case Possible Attempted Murder & Suicide

State Senator Creigh Deeds is now listed in good condition at UVA Medical Center after being stabbed multiple times in the head and torso  at his Bath County home Tuesday morning. 

Police were called to the home just before 7:30.  The Senator’s 24-year-old son, Gus, is dead of a gunshot wound. 

Authorities say at this stage in the investigation, they're looking at the altercation as an attempted murder and suicide.

Deeds, who is 55, has served the 25th district since 2001.

JFK Assassination: Radford University Examines the Evidence

A moment seared in the memories of people of a certain age is; where they were when they first heard that John F. Kennedy, the president of the United States, had been assassinated.

The shots fired at the president’s motorcade 50 years ago this week  still resonate in the public mind. And so does the belief that the murder was an act of conspiracy.  

A special seminar in Radford University’s Criminal Justice Department has students  examining original evidence from that day with the ‘20-20 hindsight’ of modern forensic techniques.
