Killing Kennedy Movie Seeks Extras

National Geographic is looking for extras to work on the film Killing Kennedy, filming in Richmond next week.

The production company was most recently in Virginia filming last year’s Killing Lincoln.

Killing Kennedy stars Rob Lowe and Ginnifer Goodwin.  They’re looking for background players of all shapes and sizes, including many Caucasian males and Hispanic men and women.

There’s one scene that takes place in Mexico City, even though it will be shot in Richmond.

New Civil War Epic

A new Civil War epic, Copperhead,  has a screening in Lynchburg June 4, 2013 at 7.p.m. The film is the latest from Ron Maxwell, director of the films Gettysburg and Gods and Generals.

Movie Palace Goes Digital

Grandin Theatre 3-Day Film Festival

It’s a first for Roanoke’s Grandin Theatre—a film festival designed to showcase  new digital upgrades to the historic, non-profit movie palace that originally opened in 1932.  

The film festival features academy award nominated shorts and a premier of the film The Place Beyond the Pines… as well as several documentary films.

The festival  runs Friday through Sunday at the Grandin Theatre, where the complete schedule is available.

Hello Heyo

The South By Southwest Music and Film Festival also has a tech side. Two Blacksburg companies are on the way to Austin Texas.  They’ll compete for awards in what’s become the festival’s fastest growing program: talks on emerging technologies.

The allure of the South by Southwest festival is not only the new music and art.  A company called Twitter introduced it self to the world there in 2007. Now, hundreds of startups compete for slots at the annual gathering.  Nathan Latka is CEO of  “Heyo.”  His Blacksburg company is an invited guest at the week long conference.

Blacksburg Represents at South by Southwest

There will be a strong showing from Blacksburg at next week’s South By Southwest Festival in Austin Texas. Two local start-ups are heading out there to participate. The annual conference is known for original music and independent film, but,  it also has a tech side.
