Roanoke Symphony's 2013-14 Season.

Proudly celebrating dual anniversaries: The RSO's 60th anniversary season and the 40th anniversary of RSO broadcasts on WVTF with appreciation to long time underwriter Grand Home Furnishings.

October 7, 7:30 p.m. live from the Roanoke Performing Arts Theater. “Opening Night: Symphonic Splendor” featuring cellist Zuill Bailey and more than 80 musicians performing masterworks by Korngold and Richard Strauss.  It will be an opening night to remember!

November 18, 7:30 p.m. – Recorded/Broadcast Delay. “RSO Homecoming” recorded November 10 at the Jefferson Center. Featuring pianist Vijay Venkatesh making his RSO debut in Liszt’s first piano concerto.

December 2, 7:30 p.m. – Recorded/Broadcast Delay. “Classics at Calvary” recorded November 23 at Calvary Baptist Church in Roanoke. RSO Virtuosi Strings, organist Seung-Won Cho, Roanoke Symphony Chorus/John Hugo, chorus master. Music of Corelli, Vivaldi, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and selections from Handel’s Messiah.

December 23, 7:30 p.m. – Recorded/Broadcast Delay. “Holiday Pops recorded December 6 at the Salem Civic Center and/or December 7 at the Center for Performing Arts at Virginia Tech.  Vocalist TBD.

March 17, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. live from the Roanoke Performing Arts Theater. Prokofiev’s “Alexander Nevsky” and Stravinsky's "Firebird Suite" as well as the premiere performance of "Blue Ridge Rhapsody" written by WVTF's classical host and music director Steve Brown.

May 5, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. – Recorded/Broadcast Delay. “Masterworks Season Finale” recorded April 27 at the Roanoke Performing Arts Theater. Schubert’s “Unfinished (No. 8)  Symphony" and Brahms' first symphony.

All RSO performances heard on the WVTF network of signals will be conducted by music director David Stewart Wiley and are underwritten by Roanoke-based Grand Home Furnishings.
