Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me! on RADIO IQ with BBC

Saturdays at 9:00am on RADIO IQ. Sundays at 10:00am on WVTF
Peter Sagal

For a wacky and whip-smart approach to the week's news and newsmakers, listen no further than Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me!, the oddly informative news quiz from NPR.

During each fast-paced, irreverent show, host Peter Sagal leads what might be characterized as the news Olympics. Callers, panelists, and guests compete by answering questions about the week's events, identifying impersonations, filling in the blanks at lightening speed, sniffing out fake news items, and deciphering limericks.

Listeners vie for a chance to win the most coveted prize in radio: having official judge and scorekeeper Carl Kasell record the outgoing message on their home answering machine.

PETER SAGAL, HOST:

And now the game where we ask someone who's done a lot of great things to do one very silly thing, that is play Not My Job.

Do you love music, I mean great American music by Otis Redding or Ray Charles or Willie Nelson or Bob Dylan or even the band Rancid? Well, if you do, you love Booker T. Jones. He played with all those musicians, as well as his own classic soul band, Booker T and the MGs. Fifty years after his first hit record, he's still playing. We're delighted to have him with us. Booker, welcome to WAIT WAIT...DON'T TELL ME!

Now, panel, who will flee the country next? Bobcat Goldthwait.

BOBCAT GOLDTHWAIT: Oh, I didn't - I wanted - I thought it was who I wanted to leave.

SAGAL: All right. Well...

(LAUGHTER)

GOLDTHWAIT: I'd hate to make it personal again, but every time my ego (unintelligible) after I do this show, there's this one person that's really mad that I'm on the show that I always find commenting. And all I can say to this guy is like, hey way to be all inclusive. Can't a guy from "Police Academy" be on WAIT WAIT?
