Old Garth Road Fire Continues to Smoulder

Robbie Munn

Fire broke out in woods in the 900-block of Old Garth Road Monday, burning just under two acres before Albemarle County firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze.  There were no injuries, but Batallion Chief Scott Keim says downed trees may continue to smoulder.  The fire was traced to a downed power line which hit the asphalt roadway, causing several small explosions.  Evening traffic was disrupted, but there was no damage to surrounding homes, and Keim expected the road to reopen by morning.
