More Access to Dental Care

The state’s Medicaid and FAMIS programs have traditionally authorized dental services for enrollees up to the age of 21. But one group of adults will now have access to dental care under a new program announced by Governor McAuliffe.

The governor said the state has extended dental benefits to 45,000 low-income pregnant women.

“They will now have full access to cleanings, x-rays, fillings, and other crucial services. Plus, we have added transportation so that they can actually get to see a dentist.  It is critically important for a mother and the new child to get that early, early dental care.  And we’ve also, for the first time ever, we have now extended coverage for 60 days after birth.”

McAuliffe also announced that 208,000 new Virginia enrollees signed up for health insurance through the federal marketplace, and 83 percent qualified for subsidies.

“We had a total sign-up of 385,000.”

He added that those who did not have insurance last year can still enroll through the marketplace from March 15th through April 30th.

McAuliffe also said that people who have moved, had a baby, or lost their insurance can still sign up for health coverage using the federal marketplace during that special enrollment period.
