Met Opera Weekly Preview with Conductor Steven White: Mozart's The Magic Flute

Dec 5, 2017

Each Friday afternoon during Met Opera season, Conductor Steven White will provide a preview of Saturday's matinee performance.

Steven White made his debut with the Metropolitan Opera in 2010 and has since conducted a number of MET performances. He also continues a longstanding relationship with Opera Roanoke as Principal Guest Conductor and will conduct two performances of La boheme in Roanoke in April 2018.

This week, Conductor Steven White previews Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s The Magic Flute. White says Mozart’s final masterpiece presents several avenues for consideration: an engaging fairytale, a treatise on 18th century enlightenment philosophy, an encoded document of Masonic symbolism, and the preeminent example of a kind of German theater piece called Singspiel.

MET Previews with Steven White are brought to you by Opera Roanoke, presenting the MET Live in HD in Whitman Theater, Virginia Western Community College.
