Justice for Kionte Spencer Group Meets with U.S. Attorney John Fishwick

Members of the advocacy group Justice for Kionte Spencer met with U.S. Attorney John Fishwick in Roanoke Monday morning to discuss their demands regarding the death of the 18-year-old student back in February.

“If that video had shown that young man in any way being a threat to the officers, then we would’ve all seen it, I’m sure, hundreds of times by now. But we have yet to see it,” said Alonzo Smith of Price Memorial AME Zion Church, one of several speaking out.

The group is demanding release of all police videos related to the case, and the names of the officers involved; they're also calling for a federal investigation.

Spencer was shot and killed by Roanoke County Police officers when he refused to put down a gun he was carrying down the street. It later turned out to be a BB gun. Law enforcement officials have said the officers' actions were justified.

Community advocate Martin Jeffrey claims that Monday's meeting with Fishwick was "substantive."

“We know John to be an advocate for the community, and so we are really confident,” Jeffrey said.

The group is holding another press conference Monday evening to discuss the meeting in further detail.
