Jefferson Center Scores Grammy Win

This year’s Grammy awards made for a big win for Roanoke’s Jefferson Center and students of the Music Lab there.

Lalah Hathaway and the jazz group Snarky Puppy won best R&B Performance, for their song Something--  featured on Snarky Puppy’s new album called Family Dinner Volume One.  It was part of a project that the Jefferson Center recorded, produced and filmed last year on the Shaftman Performance Hall Stage.

Several students of the Music Lab at the Jefferson Center are also featured in the video.  Partial proceeds from every sale of the Family Dinner cd benefit the Jefferson Center’s music education initiatives—something band leader Michael League addressed in his acceptance speech at the Grammy’s.

Snarky Puppy returns to the Jefferson Center Friday night, for a sold out performance as part of the Jazz Series.  The band will arrive early, to record with a 12-year-old music lab student, who sings on the Family Dinner album.
