Kinney Rorrer knows a few things about bluegrass. He’s the longtime host of public radio’s “Back to the Blue Ridge” on WVTF Public Radio in Roanoke, Virginia. He also plays the old time banjo and worked as a history professor for 37 years.
He joins Here & Now’s Jeremy Hobson to talk about the roots of bluegrass and share some of the genre’s classic and newer sounds, including legend Ralph Stanley and Virginia’s own Junior Sisk, as well as supergroup Close Kin.
Note: We now have a Spotify playlist for our weekly DJ Sessions segment! The playlist will be updated each week with new songs. Spotify is free to use, but requires a login.
