Consumer Alert!

The Commonwealth’s Attorney General has some advice for Virginians who plan to do lots of holiday shopping—especially over the Internet and with a credit or debit card.  He says scammers love this time of year--and therefore, it's up to you to be extra vigilant.

First, Attorney General Mark Herring says you should closely monitor all of your credit card and banking statements.

He says you should use a credit card rather than a debit card so that fraudulent transactions will not come directly out of your bank account.  Herring also says although you think it's convenient, buying over the Internet using someone else's unsecured network is not a good idea.

And if you think you've become a victim, call the A-G's office and speak with someone in the consumer protection unit.
