CityWorks (X)po starts this week in downtown Roanoke. It’s an annual event, a summit actually, for people passionate about creating vibrant and dynamic communities.
CityWorks (X)pois dubbed as a place-making event—bringing together entrepreneurs, community organizers…really, anyone interested in boosting connectivity within and between localities.
This year's speakers include new media scholars, investors, authors, a chef, experts in recreation and transportation.
For instance, Duron Chavis, Director of the Virginia State University Outdoor Farm, will be talking about sustainable urban agriculture, and how vacant lots and buildings can be transferred into urban farms, used as income-generating vehicles for communities.
Speaker Suzanne Carter with the food coop initiative in Harrisonburg was first introduced toCityWorks (X)po as an attendee. This year she's back, sharing what she’s learned about building resources in a rural area with a large geographic reach.
