Business Appreciation Month

Governor McAuliffe has kicked off Business Appreciation Month with a dedication to some of Virginia's oldest businesses. He says during the month of May, he will make a series of economic development announcements that highlight his efforts to bring more jobs to the Commonwealth.

But one official explains that companies without the traditional "corporate” profile will also feature interesting events to look forward to throughout the rest of the year.

May also kicks off the peak travel and tourism period for the Commonwealth, and the Virginia Tourism Corporation's Rita McClenny says great things are in store for almost everyone—especially if visitors are into the culinary arts.

She says several culinary greats are relocating to Virginia in an effort to help boost the industry. In addition, she says Bristol will be recognized as the birthplace of country music—and starting in two weeks, music industry experts will be converging on the region.

She says although that focus starts in Bristol, Tennessee, Virginia will also benefit.
