Ball’s Bluff

In part 177 of our Civil War series, Virginia Tech history professor James Robertson describes the Union defeat at Ball’s Bluff, which was just up the Potomac from Washington, as a debacle. The Joint Committee on the Conduct of the War established to investigate the matter fared no better than the Union troops did on that battlefield.
