Anne Marie Morgan whose reporting can regularly be heard on our Morning Edition and All Things Considered state and regional newscasts is one of the most experienced State Capitol broadcast journalists in Virginia.

In addition to providing content to Virginia Public Radio member stations, Anne Marie has also worked as an anchor and Capitol Reporter for the Virginia News Network.

She previously worked as State Capitol Reporter for WTVR-TV, WRIC-TV, and Virginia-PBS Television, where she hosted and co-produced a variety of television programs, including Capitol Views and Virginia Legislature: The Week. She also reported Virginia news for two national networks, USA Radio News and International Media Service News.

The "Teacher Cabinet" Holds its Inaugural Meeting

Nearly three dozen educators from all regions of the Commonwealth convened in Richmond today for a meeting of a new state “Teacher Cabinet.”  The panel was established by Governor McDonnell to strategize and make recommendations for education reforms.  The Governor plans to incorporate their ideas into an agenda for the next General Assembly session.

The teachers represent a wide spectrum of grades and specialties and were eager to advise the Governor about a real-world perspective. McDonnell called them excellent, experienced educators.

Giving Kids Access to Digital Textbooks

Virginia’s school boards would have until 2017 to plan for complete student access to electronic textbooks IF they decide to use them … under a bill recommended by a General Assembly advisory panel.  The measure aims to close a digital divide that’s already opened up among some students who don’t have access to e-textbooks at home.  While the solution is more complex than it seems, panel members say fixing the problem can’t wait.

Navigating the New Health Insurance Marketplace

Enrollment is set to begin October 1st for Virginia’s new health insurance marketplace, which will be operated by the federal government.

The exchange that opens this week is for individuals, while the small business program—known as “SHOP”—will open on November 1st.  But not every plan will be available everywhere in the Commonwealth.

From the Campaign Trail

Virginia’s gubernatorial election this year will set the political stage for the federal elections next year and beyond. 

That’s the message of U.S. Senator Marco Rubio, who joined Republican Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli for a fundraiser at the Richmond Marriott Monday.

The two elected officials both focused on the topic of big government versus free enterprise.

Cost Drivers in Higher Education

Concerns that skyrocketing costs may be driving many Virginia families away from higher education prompted state lawmakers to mandate a study to discover which factors are making tuition and fees so expensive.

In its second in a series of reports, the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission broke down the costs of non-academic university services, including athletics, recreation centers, housing, and dining.
