6:00 p.m. Reception, 6:30 p.m. Lecture in the Wortmann Ballroom, Colket Center, Roanoke College Church leader, educator, and civil rights activist Dr. Virgil Wood has committed much of his life’s work to the struggle for economic and spiritual development among the nation’s disadvantaged. During his pastorate in Lynchburg, Wood became actively involved with the Civil Rights movement. He served with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as a member of the National Executive Board of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference for the last 10 years of King’s life. Wood coordinated the Commonwealth of Virginia in the historic march on Washington on August 28, 1963.
